Fresh

Saturday after we watched the balloons we headed to Tyler.
I needed to pick up some dresses I had on consignment because that shit is CRAY!  Never do that. it's sort of a hoax and a waste of time.  I should have put them on Craigslist months ago and I would be done but I didn't and I'm just now fixing to put them on the interwebs sooo....anyways....don't ever think that's a good idea because it's not!
Ok so back to it... since it was around 9 and the dress shop didn't open til 10 we had time to kill.  I have been DYING to go to the Fresh grocery store that Brookshire's owns.  It's like East Texas' version of Whole Foods.  3 words...A-MAZE-ING!  I was practically dancing through the store it was so awesome.  If you know me you know that I get the greatest pleasure out of the smallest things ie. grocery shopping, checking the mail, paying my bills, etc... So the most amazing grocery store ever is only an hour away.  I can't wait to take Lincoln!  They have so many different types of food that we can't get around my town and it's just so neat.  They even have a sushi bar.  They didn't have any sushi that I wanted so I just told the little man what I wanted and he whipped it up for me.  We were in the store for about 2 hours.  Once again Mom and Lara were little skeptics but once we got to the produce everyone went crazy.  Mom found her some rhubarb and she was sold. :) Once again they have doubted me and then had to renig.

Look at all this olive oil!

Free Do It Yourselfs

A couple weekends ago I got bored then crafty all from things I got free or had around the house.  Check out my projects!
First up I took some chalkboard paint I had around the house and painted some old wine bottles that I had initially wanted to turn into lamps but have since nixed that idea.  After I painted them I took some waxy twine Lincoln brought home and wrapped it around the neck and around the base of the bottle a bit.
TA DA!

My next project was a total fluke when we were at Casey & Kaylynn's one night I saw some vintage chairs on the trailer with other junk that I could tell was about to be hauled off. I asked Kaylynn what was up with the chairs and she told me a neighbor had given them to her but she wasn't going to use them. (light bulb) I WANT THEM!  She happily gave me 3 of the 4.  One was broke.  I loaded them up in the back of Lincoln's truck and brought them home.  I used leftover painters tape to tape off some vertical stripes and then Lincoln painted them for me with some tan spray paint we had.  I love the way they turned out and I needed something on our front porch so it worked out great.
Before...as you can see the chairs were in pretty much perfect shape

Great Texas Ballon Race

Saturday Lara and I got up at 4 a.m. to get ready and meet Mom at 5 to head to Longview to watch the hot air balloons participate in the Great Texas Balloon Race. I had heard about it and figured it would be a fun little adventure plus I had a couple other things I could get done while I was out and about and it would make for a fun girls trip. Lincoln had to work Friday night so by the time he had gotten off work we were already at the Longview Regional Airport waiting for the hot air balloons to pass over us.  It was really neat!  I had never seen a hot air balloon in person and they are HUGE.  The balloons are so big and the way the driver/pilot controls them is amazing.  Not to mention those things can haul some serious ass when needed.  I bought our tickets before hand at Brookshire's (local grocery store) for $12 and I think it was so worth it.  I would love to go back next year at night to see what they call the Glow, where all the balloons are staked off but they blow up their balloons and the fire from the burners light up the inside creating the "glow" effect.

After the balloons it was only like 7:30 so we headed out to find a Starbucks and then we were off to Tyler. (more on that in the next post)

P.S. I was really really looking forward to this little adventure and was so excited when we were there.  Mom and Lara were skeptical the entire week and weren't sure if they wanted to go but I finally coaxed them into it and by the end of the balloon race Mom was ready to find a pilot to take us up in a balloon for a ride.  Needless to say we all really enjoyed the experience and the time together even if it was at the ass crack of dawn.

Randoms from the Past Weeks

Lately noting significant has happened to blog about but I have some randoms for you…
American Chinese is a dish I’ve made twice now and it’s really Swiss steak but the first time I made it Lincoln was eating it and since it was something DIFFERENT I had to ensure that he liked it so I was asking what he thought and he said that he really liked it and it was like American Chinese! I thought it was funny, like what’s that supposed to mean. LOL So now that’s our running thing. Now that I have your interest I’m sure you would love to know how I make my American Chinese. A girl at work told me how to do it so I just sort of winged it my first time and it turned out delicious.
You will need:
Cube steak
Olive oil
Bell peppers
Onion
Garlic
tomatoes
Minute rice
Worcestershire sauce
What you need to do:
Prepare you vegetables and cook on low in a skillet with some olive oil. Just enough to get them soft and smelling good. Once they are pretty done remove them from the oil and flash fry your meat. I cut my steak into strips like steak fingers. I cooked mine for about 2 minutes on each side just enough to brown the meat since it will finish cooking later. Once your meat is done add back the vegetables, cut tomatoes, and a healthy portion of Worcestershire sauce. Cook that on med and reduce it down, it takes about 20 minutes stirring occasionally. It take a few large tomatoes because the more tomatoes you have the juicier your meal will be and you will need the juice for you rice. Speaking of rice while your meat is finishing up and reducing down cook your rice. For a regular package of meat I use 2 cups of rice. That’s enough for both Lincoln and I to have a big helping plus a little left over. Once your meat and vegetables are done to your liking serve it over rice.
Voila… AMERICAN CHINESE!

I’m so glad Lesley told me about this meal because I am always looking for new things to cook because if ya’ll are like me I get bored cooking the same ole stuff all the time.

The past couple weekends and even a night or two over the past couple weeks we have been to my brother’s house to cook out and then we had Casey and Kaylynn over to cook out because the weekend before we had a gathering at their house. We at too much steak and potatoes and WAAYY too many deviled eggs. On most of these occasions I never brought out my camera but I did get a few pictures here and there. I swear when we are with Casey and Kaylynn we do some of the craziest things and we could have won $100,000 a couple times over by some of the funnies we could have caught on video.
Kaylynn and Casey
Casey playing army man with his .22 pistol. It was hilarious and a definite $100,000 moment with his tuck and rolls and all. We also had more hillbilly fun by shooting the green tomatoes that were hanging onto my dead tomato plants in the garden. J You might be a redneck if…..
Every time we cook out with our family (Casey & Kaylynn) we always plan on staying the night or vice versa so this particular weekend was no different. The mornings are always good with all of us lounging around in our jammies, drinking coffee, just having good conversation, and of course a healthy breakfast. I cooked 16 eggs, 2 cans of biscuits, and I don’t know how much bacon and we didn’t have any left. One comment made at the table during breakfast was, “just think how much food we will go through when we have 2 kids a piece!”

Earlier in the week my brother had us over to cook steaks at him and Lara’s house and it was fun since we were all there even my littlest brother, Caleb. We went down to Lincoln’s deer stand to check out the wasp nest that had overtaken his stand in the summer months. He had a can of spray in his truck so we got Caleb a hoody and sent him in Raid a blazin’ ready to kill some wasp! We really know how to show our love. LOL

Lincoln is borderline OCD about our yard. He gets it all nice and trimmed up and looking good and then the pasture that’s behind and surrounds our house is over grown. It doesn’t really bother me but it bugs him to death so he has been talking about getting a tractor and shredder and cleaning it up. I don’t care but we don’t even own it so I’m sort of like babe don’t waste your time and….in the end money. But he says he makes our yard and house look trashy so….on Saturday afternoon after running errands we call a friend to see if we can borrow his equipment. We pick it up and head home to tackle the project. Lincoln doesn’t even get a good start before a part on the shredder breaks and it is a goose chase that holds up his entire operation for like 4 days. He finally got it all taken care of and it looks great. He is super proud but now the fence row is bugging him so he is going to put some weed killer out. J I think we both learned our lesson on borrowing peoples stuff though and next time I think we might just go out and buy our own tractor and shredder and save ourselves (Lincoln) the headache. LOL

Project Hopefuls

Now that my house is all decorated and organized, as I see fit, I am bored with nothing to occupy my time.  This boredom got me to thinking of how I love real estate and I love interior design/homey craftiness.  Now don't get me wrong when I say interior design I mean making a home homey, I'm no Martha! :)  I have always longed to buy little rent houses and re-invent them.   Along with a lot of other goals I've added a couple of these project hopefuls to the list.
can't you see the possibilities
Buy some great acres of land with a dairy barn up front.  I can turn the dairy barn into my own personal pet project and then on the back of the acreage build our dream house of course.  Not only would a dairy barn be an amazing project it would also be really meaningful seeing I grew up a milk maid!
there aren't even words...ssswwwoooonnnnn
If not a dairy barn a well structured hay barn would do the trick too.
the perfect guest house or even better...the girl cave
One thing that I have fantasized about forever is fixing up a farm silo into like a loft type thing with different levels. Since the space inside even a large silo is limited I think it would awesome to have a spiral stair case outside of the structure have levels on the inside of loft space and replace the entire top dome with glass to let in tons of light!

My first dream
and in the mean time since this is probably a bit more in my price range.... a fixer upper vintage camper!  I could do wonders with one of these.

Tuesday's Travel To Do- Pintrest Edition

It's been a while since I've taken the time to do a TTTD but since I was pinning away I had this idea and we will roll with it this week.  SSSOOO....I'm going to share a few pictures that I found via Pintrest that I pinned to My Wanderlist board.  Summer time wants me to adventure and travel even more than any other time and we are in the prime of summer which means my skin is crawling to go somewhere different.

Amsterdam
Mexico

Italy

Ecuador

These are just a few amazing places that I would love to see and submerse myself in.  Until that can happen I will leave you with the below cute saying and wish!
