Tuesday's Travel To Do- Texas Bucket List

This week's Tuesday Travel To Do is the grand state of Texas!

A few months ago I received a magazine that has all the cities in Texas and the things it offers like museums, parks, and interesting sites.  This helped me make this post that I had been thinking about for a while.  Texas is a huge state and there are some amazing things to see and do that I haven’t done yet….So I made a little Texas Bucket List.  I’m sure there are tons of awesome places in Texas that I haven’t ran across yet that I will definitely add to my list but for now these things have always been known to me and also just jumped out at me. A lot of these things are outdoorsy but I think hiking in Big Bend National Park or camping at the Palo Duro Canyon would make an awesome little get a way not to mention the road trip time we would get in driving there. :)  Gotta love Texas...everything IS BIGGER even road trips!

KEY:

From the Coop to the Kitchen

I have been complaining about one of our roosters, Pete, for a few weeks now. He is a real nuisance. Gustar is the alpha rooster and Pete makes a lot of trouble for us, Gustar, and the other poor hens he is constantly trying to molest. If we plan on letting the chickens out to run around and eat bugs in the yard we have to make sure they can be out for hours because otherwise Pete is chasing the hens around trying to get on top of them. This causes the hens to squawk and then Gustar is on the hunt…he takes off running after Pete to protect the hens and show him whose boss. LOL Not only does this happen constantly but when we get ready to put the chickens away we will get almost all of them in the coop and Pete will do something that makes someone squawk and out shoots Gustar and then all the hens follow. It is an aggravating yet entertaining battle. LOL We don’t really need two roosters so last night Lincoln killed, plucked, skinned, and cleaned Pete. He put the meat on the smoker today and I received a text this afternoon letting me know that it was good. I know is sounds really hillbilly but I’m really excited about eating our organic chicken.  When I got home from work we did a few things outside and then enjoyed our organic chicken and a baked potato.  It was delicious!

NO ADDITIVES here Bo Pilgrim. ;)

Early Bird Gets the Worm

My Sunday started around 8:30 am. We stayed at Casey and Kaylynn’s house Saturday night and I got up early so I wouldn’t sleep the day away. I actually planned on napping at home but that didn’t happen. I drank a few cups of coffee while I read blogs and planned for my day. I knew that my garden needed to be done pretty soon and I wanted to get a few things to finish up my décor in the guest bedroom so I ate an early lunch, got ready, and headed to Sulphur Springs. I went to Lowes first and bought a small tiller so I wouldn’t have to keep borrowing one and all my vegetables. The seeds I started back in February didn’t turn out as great as I had hoped. Out of all my little pots I only got one pot of tomatoes with about 5 little sprouts, 2 okra sprouts, and 2 squash sprouts. I planted those and I’m anxious to see if they make it. I bought almost 3 of everything that I intended on planting and good ole Lowes had everything I wanted. J I should really buy stock in that place. I got my plants and tiller in my truck (Corolla) and then was off to knock out my list at Wal-Mart. I got everything I needed there except a white comforter. L I really don’t want to order one so I’ll see what I can come up with but I’m set on white. I got some really cute material for my curtains and I can’t wait for the big reveal. Ok I got off topic…back to gardening. After my trip to town I got back home and unloaded my finds. The weather here was great and I really wanted to work in the yard so I hopped on the lawn mower and tackled that first. As soon as I finished up mowing my Mom showed up to help me plant all my yummy vegetables. She was a bit disappointed because we weren’t just going to plant we had to till, rake, hoe, make the rows, and THEN we could plant. She wasn’t prepared for all the work that she thought I had already accomplished, but we did all that and I broke in my new tiller. She left around 6 and I finished up with the planting, cleaning up, and watering around 7.

My little space is packed full of plants and I REALLY HOPE they will take off and give me lots of food in a couple months. As many plants as I have I’m going to have enough food for me and the entire surrounding area. I went a little overboard. ;) I will keep you posted on the progress. After I finished all my yard work I had the makings of a farmers tan, was worn out from the sun, and ate up with ants I went in the house to fix supper for me and Lincoln, do laundry, and prepare for the week.

Date Night & Hunger Games

Lincoln and I don’t go on a lot of dates with just me and him. We hang out with friends a lot at our houses and we do a lot of fun things but we never make a plan and just go by ourselves to dinner and a movie or something. Mainly we don’t do this because we don’t really go out to eat a lot, we are always trying to save money, and Lincoln REALLY doesn’t like spending money on things like that. Anyways, I have read the Hunger Games trilogy and, like all of America, was so excited for the movie to finally hit theaters. I talked to Lincoln early last week and asked him if we could go on a date Friday and see that movie and have dinner just me and him. I knew he would probably say yes because we never do anything like that and I made sure to point out the movie was not a regular chick flick it was about killing and stuff and I was sure he would enjoy it. (not total torture for a man LOL) Like I thought, he agreed and after we got off work Friday we headed out on our DATE!

We enjoyed a high class meal at our local Chili’s where we ran into some friends. After our meal we had about an hour before the movie started but instead of wasting time we went ahead and headed that way. We purchased our tickets online because I didn’t want to not be able to get in. Matt & Heather were there and we decided to sit with them.

We got in line and it’s a good thing. I had originally planned on getting in line around 9 since the movie started at 9:30 but by 9 the line was really long. We got great seats and not long after the movie was starting.

IT WAS FANTASTIC! Worth every penny and minute we had to wait.

The only bad part is now we have to wait for the next part to come out. LOL Lincoln really enjoyed it too and I was happy about that. He even said last night that he’s ready to watch it again. He is one of those who watches movies he likes over and over because he likes to analyze.

Our night was great and I’m so glad that every once in a while we take the time and the money to do something that’s enjoyable and out of the ordinary for us.

YAY for date nights!

11/23/63 Review

I finished a GREAT book last week!

Rewind to a few months ago……
I had seen this book on Amazon when it first came out and thought it looked really interesting. It was like a fictional take on nonfiction facts and it was by Stephen King. I didn’t buy it right then because it was pretty expensive (for me) and I had never read Stephen King so I didn’t want to spend my money on a book that I wasn’t totally sure about when there were several others I KNEW I wanted to read.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago……..
Several of the ladies I work with were talking about it and how they are reading it. I read the jacket of it and it sounded like something I would like to read so I broke down and bought it on my Kindle since we could all read it together. (or so I thought) I finished my latest Vampire Diaries book and started in on 11/23/63.

At first it was a tink slow but with all the details and just how different it was Mr. King held my attention. By the time I reached the middle of the 849 page gripper I couldn’t put it down. I was so engrossed in that book last week that I didn’t do any of my homework until the last few hours it was due BUT I finished the book Friday afternoon.

I was so into it I couldn’t get anything accomplished until I finished and knew all the details and how it ended. It was so long I felt very invested in it. Overall the book itself was great and I recommend it to anyone. I haven’t read any other Stephen King books but from what others have said he is sort of a mystery horror type author and this is nothing like that.

The main character, Jake (George) is given a mission and has to go back in time to accomplish it. Along his way he accomplishes his own mission, falls in love, finds the joy in teaching again, and accomplishes his original mission but none of this happens without A LOT of challenge, pain, and heart ache.

If you haven’t read it and were on the fence about it like me…. Then I say come on over it was GREAT! I finally have my life back now that I finished the book and I know Lincoln is happy because not only did I not get my homework done but I didn’t do any laundry or house cleaning all week. LOL J

Tuesday's Travel To Do- San Diego

This week's Tuesday's Travel To Do is San Diego.  I was going to wait on posting about San Diego since I had planned on going in less than a month but some personal things came up and now I've decided to postpone my trip until the time is better.  This is happy and sad.  Happy because now I can share my favorites and my plans on my blog and sad because I won't be traveling there anytime soon but that's ok.  I have my whole life...right?  My plan on going to San Diego was to just enjoy my long weekend walking around the Gaslamp Quarter, visiting a beach or two, Balboa Park and just losing myself in the city and of course some good eat that I happened along would have been GREAT!

I planned on staying at the Marriott...I mean are there any other hotels out there?  I think NOT!

Visiting:

The Gaslamp Quarter
Balboa Park

Balboa Park

Balboa Park
Beaches

Del Mar Beach

San Diego Beach

Other than these few things I planned on doing nothing or just filling my travel tank with NO PLANS.  I had also hoped to meet up with Tammie from Lemons, Avocados, and the Bay.  :(  I hope she is in San Diego when my trip makes another appearance.  She was very helpful when I emailed her discussing my trip and this girl is the one to check out if you are in the area.  She is so cute, has an awesome blog, and plans some great meet ups for bloggers.  You can meet her HERE.

Well folks, that's it for this Tuesday!

I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Happy Travels!

AC/DC Concert in Munich

When I visited Germany and Austria in May of 2009, I can’t remember exactly but I’m pretty sure I was there for around 15 days on leave from the wonderful Iraq.
The sole purpose was to see AC/DC in concert on May 15th and that of course lead to visiting the surrounding areas and making a full RnR out of the deal.
AC/DC is my all time favorite band EVER.
They are awesome.
I was maybe 15 rows back from the actual stage.  It was the most energetic, amazing thing EVER!  All the cheering, the music, the beer, just the all around ENERGY is contagious.  There really are no words. I left that concert with no voice drenched and freezing from the rain and probably the happiest little Texan around.
I had just watched the most awesome band (in my opinion) rock out a PACKED Olympic stadium for a good 3 hours.  Angus Young played a solo guitar piece that was a good 45 minutes on a platform at the end of a runway that lifted him up in the air…all the while it rained the whole time and he was shirtless!  If that’s not freaking amazing I don’t know what is.
AC/DC rocked Munich in their early 60s better than most bands in their prime of 30s.  I’m grinning and getting butterflies in my stomach just reminiscing.
AGAIN there are really no words, I could try to describe it all night long but really a few pictures will help but until you experience this you will NEVER understand the raw power of energy like that.
Me and all those crazy Germans could have moved mountains that night!
Starting the night off right with Rock n Roll Train

Angus doing his famous walk/stomp thing and of course rocking out
