Wiped Out

It's been a while since I've posted on any of our animals....

I guess I need to start documenting my chicken drama again.

This week I have gotten a couple good pictures from Lincoln while I was at work....

Lincoln got his first deer of the season on Monday and his first deer bow hunting...he was ecstatic to say the least.  The doe was running so it was a rushed shot and went into her gut but she went down anyways and he spent the day processing the meat and then cleaning up the kitchen.

Yesterday Lincoln sent me this picture while I was at work.  When he got home from hunting I guess he came home to this..... Hercules is asleep in the dog house but hims so tired he didn't even make it all the way in.  I asked Lincoln if he was even alive. LOL  Poor baby....

Wicked Tuesday Night

To get a little fall fun in before Lincoln headed off to work 6 whole nights we carved a couple pumpkins and watched a Halloween classic on Tuesday night.

It was my first time using a carving kit and it was a learning experience.  Next year I will for sure have a perfect pumpkin.  Lincoln was a pro so his lines are all smooth and stuff but when the lights are off and they are lit up you can't really tell.  I think mine is the best they both look great. :)

After the pumpkin carving we lit them up and sat them by the TV ready to watch a Halloween classic....

Lincoln had never seen Hocus Pocus! Can you believe it? I know me neither....its like sacrilege.
HE LOVED IT OF COURSE!

At the end of the movie I was studying Thackery Binx because I knew he looked familiar but I just couldn't place him.  It finally dawned on me and I couldn't believe that I figured this out all these years later but does Thakery Binx remind you of anyone?

How about a closer look for better examination!

Ok I will tell you.....
It's McGee from NCIS!

I will never look at him the same...he now goes in the movie icon category. LOL

Anyways, that was our eventful Tuesday night!

Happy Fall Ya'll

Book Review: Fortune Series

Back in May I read a book by Audrey Braun called A Small Fortune. The book was one that I happened across while trolling Amazon for some new, cheap reads. It was an easy read that kept me interested and it was different from the books I had been reading. I don’t know why but I somehow missed doing a book review on it back then. I can’t remember much of my thoughts from the book but I do know it is worth the few dollars that it cost.

Amazon synopsis:
When Celia Donnelly’s husband, Jonathon, surprises her with a family vacation to Mexico, the harried book editor couldn't be happier. She is overworked and exhausted, a situation that has taken a toll on her eighteen-year marriage, not to mention her relationship with her teenaged son. Escaping the perpetually rainy Pacific Northwest for the sugary sands of Mexico could be just what the doctor ordered. Yet shortly after their arrival south of the border, a chance encounter with a stranger sparks illicit memories of a former affair. The moment passes, but that brief encounter proves enough to change her life forever. Hours later, Celia is lured from the beach and abducted off the street. At first a seemingly random victim, Celia quickly realizes her captors know exactly who she is. Desperate for news of her family and devastated by the betrayal of someone she trusts, Celia, along with an unlikely ally, is soon running for her life. Pursued from the balmy shores of Mexico to the steamy thickets of the jungle, to the crisp, cold mountains of Zurich, Celia will stop at nothing to find her way home.

Not only is A Small Fortune worth it because it is a good book in itself but it leads up to the next book which was REALLY good, Fortune’s Deadly Descent. I finished a my latest book a couple weeks ago and was all out of books that I had stored on my Kindle….what’s a girl to do?! Have no fear Amazon always comes through be it new and regular priced books or in this case cheap or even better FREE books for my Kindle. It takes a bit of looking at times but they are out there and I just have to find one that sounds great to me. Somehow I stumbled upon a book that sparked my interest while browsing the fictional travel novels, Fortune’s Deadly Descent. I read the book description and it sounded really interesting and somewhere on the page it said that it was part of a series of books the first one being A Small Fortune. I decided that even though it wasn’t free it was really cheap so I went ahead and jumped on it! I devoured the book and it was SO good. Fortune’s Deadly Descent was one of those books that even when I was so tired I just wanted to keep reading all night so I could find out what was going to happen. When I finished it I was a bit sad but apparently it is part of a series so I’m hoping the author puts another one out soon.

Memories of her dire past fade as Celia Hagen enjoys life in Switzerland as a best-selling author, surrounded by an extended family, her beloved Benicio, and their imaginative young son Benny. But when Benny disappears from a train during an unexpected stop in the French Provencal countryside, Celia suspects her past may not be buried after all. With Benny gone, she quickly realizes her life wasn’t nearly as idyllic as she believed. Infuriated by the unorthodox search efforts of Interpol and the French police, Celia, along with her older son Oliver, undertakes her own search, only to find that the village where Benny vanished has its own chilling history, and her interference in the case will have grave and irreversible consequences.

In the follow up to Audrey Braun’s best-selling debut, A Small Fortune, Celia discovers just how quickly everyone she loves can spiral toward a life—or death—that none of them could have seen coming.

So far the only two books in the Fortune Series are these two but I will for sure put Audrey Braun on my list of authors to check up on so I can jump at the chance to read more about the happenings in Celia’s life!

HAPPY READING

Beavers Bend Getaway

You might have remembered me talking HERE a couple months back about a cabin getaway....

Well this past weekend we went to Hochatown, OK to stay in a cabin for a little nature getaway.

Hochatown is pretty much Beavers Bend/Broken Bow but who knows because you know those Okie's are crazy.

Casey & Kaylynn rented the Blue Moon cabin through Beavers Bend Getaways and it was everything the website showed plus more.

Day 1

We left MV around noon and were on our way on a mini road trip for about an hour 1/2 that was complete with pretty pastures, a few changing leaves, and Arby's.  We got to the cabin after a few wrong turns and were so excited to be there.
The cabin was so awesome!  Lincoln and I took the blue bedroom pictured in the top left.  Everything was there that we could need and we immediately started saying this has to be a tradition from now on!

The boys relaxing right after arriving.

Handsome boyfriend

The first night Casey, Kaylynn, Lincoln and I just hung around the house.  Colby and Lara were supposed to come up with on Friday also but Colby couldn't get off work so they came up on Saturday.  We cooked hamburgers, sat in the HOT tub for hours, visited, laughed, and drank some refreshing but weak Oklahoma grade adult beverages.

FACT:  It is illegal to take any sort of alcohol from Texas into Oklahoma, like get tickets and possibly go to jail for bootlegging illegal.  Their percentage of alcohol that is in beer and stuff is weaker than in Texas.  One more reason why Texas is the best. LOL

I saw this Shock Top beer in the store and decided I would try it.  I didn't have any fresh sliced orange to put with it like recommended but that was ok. It was a nice drink and I for sure want to try it again with the orange.

Friday night was chilly and so I had to put a jacket on to make my way too and from the hot tub. LOL Nothing better than a neon bikini, camo jacket, and moccasins.
me and Kaylynn getting all wrinkly in the hot water

probably my new favorite picture of us

After several relaxing hours in the hot tub we headed inside to go upstairs in the little media area and watch a movie on the projector with surround sound.  There weren't a lot of movies to choose from so we ended up putting on an older movie called Proof of Life with Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe.  EVERYONE fell asleep but ME and I watched the entire movie.  It was a really really good movie but a tink sad because Meg and Russell didn't end up together.... :(
Day 2

After breakfast on Saturday morning we headed to Beavers Bend State Park.  I was dying to go hiking and wonder around. We mainly drove through as Casey was the tour guide but we did stop at a few areas.

One of the areas we stopped at there was a pretty much straight up and down hill/mountain thing and of course I was going to get some hiking in so Lincoln, Casey, and I headed up. Kaylynn stayed on a lower rock and relaxed a few minutes by the river while we were gone. It was fun and the views at the top were great!

After our little adventure around the park we headed back to the house because Colby and Lara were on there way.  They arrived right round lunch and the rest of the afternoon consisted of old school music, singing, debating, and visiting.  We headed to town for dinner at Abendigo's. Casey and Kaylynn had eaten there a few years back on their honeymoon and wanted to revisit the place.  We waited for almost an hour and when there was no table in sight so we decided to find a different restaurant.  We ended up at a little diner across the road and we all had good country meals of chicken fried steak and catfish plates.

After dinner we headed back to enjoy the hot tub!

Sunday was check out day!  After we got up and going around 7:30 we had breakfast and sat in the living room in a PJs enjoying each other's company.  Colby and Lara left around 11:15 because Lara had several test to study for on Monday and we were right behind them.  Lincoln and I were back at our humble abode around 1:30.

All in all it was a great weekend, thanks Casey and Kaylynn!

I can see us doing this every year for a long weekend because even though it isn't packed full of activities it was something out of the norm and we got to spend time with friends and family.

I'm SO grateful that I have people around me that are my close friends and then I also have my real family around and we are all so close we just make ONE HAPPY FAMILY!

Postcard Puzzle

Friday night on my way to MV to see Casey & Kaylynn's new purchase! (land....so envious) I called my Mom to chat and she said that on my way through to stop by and see what Caleb, my brother, got in the mail today.  I just thought it was something from a college or something like that...boy was I mistaken.  So when I walked in my Mom through a little yellow envelope down in front of me and it was addressed to my brother but the return address was from an APO which is a military post.

I asked Mom who it was from because I didn't think Caleb new anyone else at an APO, other than me when I was overseas.  She said just open it so it did.  I pulled out two pieces of cardboard and this was the message. "Found this in a geocache and thought you'd need this.  Tell your brother he's cheap!! :) Al Burke Cairo, Egypt"

Then I removed the top cardboard piece and was dumbfounded as to what I found inside!

A post card!  And I recognized it immediately it was a post card that I had bought...I turned it over and on the back of the post card was this. "I was going to send this to my brother but never made it to the post. Ha Ha Ha :)"
Ok so now I'm really confused!  The writing is mine and I couldn't remember why I would have written this on the post card.  I obviously had never made it to the post office or I would have written something else and there's no postage.  I figured I had maybe left it at my hotel or something and some nice person found it and sent it to my bro.

I racked my brain with my Mom and couldn't come up with anything.  She said it was a mystery.  We laughed and I had to be on my way before it got completely dark so I headed out.

I drove and still thought about what I had done but couldn't come up with anything.  I thought that if I didn't come up with the answer soon I was going to have to write back to the sender and find out more of the story because this was bugging me...WHY WOULD I WRITE THAT?

I got to Kaylynn's and was telling them the story and showing them the pictures I had taken of the thing with my phone and Autumn couldn't make out a word. I said that the word was geocache but I didn't know what that meant.  Kaylynn shed some light on this and told us it was like a treasure and that they have like GPS geocaches where its like a treasure hunt and they go around digging things up and stuff.  This struck a memory and it all made sense!

While I visited Egypt I went to the Valley of the Whales and while hiking the park I went to the top of this really tall sand mountain thing and found a box half buried in the ground.  I opened it up and there were other people's items in it...it's like a time capsule or in this guys vocabulary a geocache!  I had a postcard in my bag that I had intended on mailing to my brother but never did so I wrote on the back and put it in the box, locked the lid, and continued on my marry way totally forgetting about what I'd done.
at the Valley of the Whales January 2011

Apparently Al Burke found the box and saw my postcard and mailed it to my brother assuming that I, was Caleb's brother and was too cheap to mail it myself. LOL  I think its awesome and an amazing story and what an adventure has this little postcard had. I hope my Mom keeps this little package in a safe spot because its really neat and I would really love for Caleb to keep it.

I think I might pen Al Burke a letter and send it off just because you never know.....stuff like this never happens to me... I mean really what are the odds.

NOW THAT'S A GOOD STORY! LOL I still can't believe it.

Love After Death?

Yesterday at work a co-worker was telling me about her great uncle whose wife suffered from Alzheimer's and passed away a few months ago.
Her great uncle has since started dating and is now engaged to a woman whom the couple had known for years and years. The older couple had been married for almost 30 years and although the wife had sort of really been gone for the past 4 or 5 years because of the disease she was still there in person and had been this man’s companion for the past 25 years.

While watching TV this week Lincoln and I saw a show or something that had the same type of situation.  Now I’ve never been in this position but my co-worker I both feel that this is WEIRD.

I don’t really know how to explain it other than I would feel betrayed and like I was easily replaceable, not too mention I would be highly pissed off if my husband got with a family friend any time after my death.
I mean I would for sure haunt their asses!

I just don’t really understand how a family friendship can go from that to lover or romantic companion!
I understand the one friend is there for the griever and all that but if you never have felt those sort of romantic feelings while your spouse was alive then how does it cross to seeing this person in another light,
NOW of all times?

If anyone has any thoughts or insight on this please share because I would like to know…
just in case I need to come back and give one of my friends hell for hooking up with Lincoln after my death. LOL

State Fair 2012

Monday Kaylynn and I went to the State Fair in downtown (ghettoville) Dallas.  We left early, around 7:45 and got there pretty early.  We walked around and visited different exhibits my favorite was the auto exhibit that showcased a lot of the new cars from different makers.  We went through a few kid exhibits that involved animals and we petted some sting rays.  That was really neat not to mention we left the barnyard exhibit with wants of baby goats and yaks. LOL We ate a yummy German lunch and rode the famed ferris wheel.  After our ride we walked around a bit more and felt we accomplished what we come to do so decided to head out  I had a few tickets left so bought an ok funnel cake and some salt water taffy.  Overall it was a nice cool day at the fair with one of my great friends but the fair itself was a tad overrated.  We were both expecting something pretty big and more content that was there but what it boils down to is that it's just a regular county/city fair that you would find in your local area.  I'm glad I experienced it but I think I'm good for about 5 years.

Big Tex

some pretty Monarchs that were in the garden at the butterfly exhibit

We rode bumper cars and I think were able to take out all/any anger that we had on all the other people by ramming them! LOL They should have these set up outside each work place for only adults.

My yummy Reuben sandwich on a pretzel roll....it was so good

Dallas skyline from the top of the wheel

I couldn't decide which picture so I did a collage of several I took...its a post on the fair you can't have too many pictures of the ferris wheel!
Today was a great ending to a great long weekend!  YAY only a 4 day work week this week and next week!
